Great quiz, but tough, Susan! Here are my guesses:
ReplyDelete1)Black Tern at lower left.
2)Least Tern
3)Least Tern
4)Forster's Tern
5)Common Tern (but can't reconcile the black legs)
6)Roseate Tern, right with black bill
7)Sandwich Tern
It was an impossible test, Hilde. You were the only one brave enough to try! I didn't realize until now just how impossible. Without reference photos for size and without revealing the date of the photo, its virtually impossible to tell what's what. For one picture, I had to go back to the original photos from more than a year ago to see if there were any other birds around to verify size!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, good job, Hilde! I'll email you the answers shortly. Anyone else want to take a stab?
I should probably bail on this, but ...
ReplyDelete1) - nope
2) Least
3) Common
4) Common
5) Caspian
6) Roseate
7) Forster's
Wow, Chris! Every one you answered is 100% correct! You did the impossible. I am seriously impressed, Chris - as always. Congratulations!

ReplyDeleteYes, it was a tough test! I'll reciprocate with a tern test of my own during the winter when birding is really slow :-))!!
